Why is the SMS limit only 160?
A single standard SMS holds 160 characters. Longer messages are split into multiple parts, so staying under 160 keeps it to one message.
Do links count as their full length?
This tool counts the characters you see. Note that X shortens every link to a fixed length of 23 in its own count, so a post with links may have more room there than shown.
