Estimate your basal metabolic rate

Your basal metabolic rate is the number of calories your body burns at complete rest just to keep you alive, breathing and warm. Enter your weight, height, age and gender, in metric or imperial units, to get an estimate from the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, the formula dietitians use most. It is the starting point for working out daily calorie needs. These figures are estimates and not medical advice.

Why BMR matters

BMR is usually the largest part of the calories you burn each day, before any movement or exercise is added on top.
